Job Description:

The Sr. Research and Development Technician will assist senior subject matter experts across departmental lines (e.g., research and engineering development). The position requires the ability to understand complex problems on the interface of day-to-day engineering and academic disciplines and participate in developing the most efficient path to proceed in all stages of medical device development and production.

A demonstrated proficiency and or solid educational background in analysis and interpretation of properties of polymer and bio- materials is required. The work is fast paced with both the need for quick turn-around of results and consistent performance to meet long-term objectives.

It is necessary that candidates have demonstrated hands-on experience and or training with multiple laboratory and analytical techniques, proven problem-solving skills using critical thinking, and excellent communication skills.  

In addition, the ideal candidate will develop their capabilities and learn how to contribute to complex multi-disciplinary team efforts in product design or process changes in a regulated environment.


Position Responsibilities:


  • Work as part of a team, as well as individually, in Chemical and Biological/Blood laboratories
  • Set up and non-regulated maintenance of equipment, such as for example FTIR microscope, DSC, HPLC, TEG, as well as new instruments
  • Conduct material chemistry tests and experiments
  • Record, analyze, and report data
  • Present results in team and group meetings
  • Generate test procedures based on critical review of literature and practical experience

Basic Qualifications:

Typically requires a minimum of two years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, or Chemical/Biological Engineering, or a master’s degree and no prior industrial experience in these disciplines.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated solid educational background and knowledge required for analysis of synthetic polymers, biomaterials, and complex biological fluids (human and animal blood and plasma) using such methods as FTIR, TEG, DSC, UV-Vis, ELISA, HPLC.
  • Hands-on experience or training in the above.
  • Experience of or training in working with animal and human blood products.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • The ability to integrate and effectively operate as a member of a cross-functional team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience working with miniature components of medical devices in a clean room environment is a plus.
