The Abiomed Clinical Development group leads the design and development of Abiomed Clinical Studies.  Our team is currently hiring a Clinical Scientist to lead the scientific and experimental development of clinical trials.  We are looking for a creative self-starter who thrives in a continuously growing environment and enjoys a fast-paced, dynamic research group.  This role will be instrumental in designing a range of studies from First-In-Human through large pivotal trials that tackle some of the biggest and most complicated questions in heart failure.  This role has the opportunity to further develop into a scientific leader in the clinical trial domain.

Responsibilities

  • Experimental design and protocol development
  • Be a domain expert in the study field (literature reviews, conferences, work with KOLs) as well as the subject matter expert in all scientific aspects of her/his trials
  • Drive collaboration with external Design and Steering Committees, including presenting in and leading scientific meetings with internal and external stakeholders.  This role acts as the point-person in discussing scientific elements of the trials with the external Steering Committee throughout the design and execution of the studies.
  • Work closely with statisticians and analysts to evaluate study options and analyze prior data to support study design decisions
  • Make decisions independently within her/his domain, including directing analysis and study designs
  • Perform statistical analysis to support study design decisions
  • Assist with development of electronic data capture (EDC) requirements of Abiomed-driven studies and fully support EDC design of her/his trials
  • Support communications with the FDA
  • Support on-going studies, assessing impact of proposed changes and ensuring scientific soundness

Required Education and Experience

  • Advanced degree in scientific field; PhD or MD
  • Expertise in medicine, cardiology, hematology, or an equivalent  
  • Strong experimental or clinical trial background
  • Strong knowledge of basic statistics
  • Demonstrated excellence in analytical thinking in one or more scientific fields
  • Experience with medical devices a plus

  • Willing to travel 10% of the time to assist with project progression and attend scientific conferences
