The Supplier Engineer- Metrologist serves as ABIOMED’s primary technical contact for inspection method development and alignment, both internally and with external suppliers, lead Gage R&R and Test Method Validation activities, improving quality through continuous improvement programs, maintaining and implementing new inspection equipment and performing inspections of components and product to support the release of new development programs.  This role is a key technical resource for the company’s continued growth, and is a great opportunity for someone to make a difference at one of the fastest-growing medical technology companies, focused on recovering hearts and saving lives.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement new equipment requests to support development and production needs, including programing of vision systems (Micro-Vu, Keyence) and inspection fixture development
  • Lead Gage R&R activities and support Test Method Validations of new inspection equipment and methods, responsible for the associated protocol and report documentation
  • Train inspection operators on new inspection methods, both internally and at external suppliers as needed
  • Assist in the " Quality at the Source" program with the objective of increasing yields at the supplier and qualifying quality inspections at the supplier facility
  • Support the analysis of defective components in Incoming Inspection and work with vendors to resolve 
  • Support production incoming inspection when required

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or similar
  • 3+ years of professional experience involving inspection method/fixture development
  • Proficient understanding of metrology and programing of vision systems
  • Knowledge of Test Method Validations, Process Capability and data analysis using statistical tools (Six Sigma Green or Black Belt is a plus)
  • Knowledge of polymer, machining, and/or metal cutting processes a plus
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%, primarily to visit suppliers
