The Abiomed Data Engineering group is a team of developers, testers, and analysts building the data-driven research pipeline for a new generation of life saving medical devices. We are currently hiring a Software Development Engineer with desktop application development experience to develop a new software medical device. This role requires the design and development of a desktop application for secondary display of patient support data during cardiac procedures. These efforts empower customers to leverage valuable insights to better support their patients and save lives.

In this key role, you will be designing/developing in a collaborative team of developers, analysts, and testers following an Agile Scrum process. We are looking for an analytical self-starter with a passion for learning, and attention to detail, and is motivated to create new visuals to support patient care.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Translate user needs and design requirements into testable software units.
  • Consult with stakeholders on user needs and assist in translating those user needs to software and user interface requirements.
  • Design application architecture.
  • Design robust, cross-platform software applications for Linux or Windows.
  • Integrate data from connected devices.
  • Implement pre-built machine learning algorithms.
  • Implement interactive visuals/UIs to summarize medical data.
  • Perform unit testing and security testing activities.
  • Participate in design and code reviews.
  • Augment our existing CI/CD and testing frameworks.
  • Mentor members of the team on best practices for desktop application design.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Biological Sciences or Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of related experience
  • Strong desktop application development experience
  • Experience with programming for Linux and Windows environments
  • Experience with applications for connected devices
  • Experience with front-end/UI frameworks
  • Experience with real-time waveform display
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communicator who can work across disciplines
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data analytics
  • Experience of working with medical devices
  • Experience with cloud services (Azure or AWS preferred)
  • Experience with Agile Scrum methodology
