Job Summary:

Abiomed has an immediate opportunity for a Sr. Production Engineer – Electronics Manufacturing.  This individual will maintain electronics manufacturing fixtures, train technicians to troubleshoot non-conforming components and assemblies, ensure proper transition of new software into production consoles, set-up new console manufacturing lines, support New Product DFM and DFT initiatives and ensure overall continuity, scale-up and improvements of the console manufacturing line.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Production Sustain

  • Act as a team role model and change agent. Positively lead and influence team members to partner together to achieve individual and business goals.
  • Provide manufacturing with work instructions, test procedures, test equipment, automated tooling and fixtures.
  • Utilize Abiomeds business systems (SAP) to control bills of materials, manage engineering change orders, and interface to our supply chain process.
  • Provide prompt problem solving for console manufacturing issues, including problem definition, root cause, containment, and corrective and preventive actions.
  • Participate in the investigation of non-conforming product (MRB) and implement action plans for all internal corrective actions and audit findings
  • Train electrical technicians on schematics, trouble shooting and rework of PCB and system assemblies.
  • Maintain and improve the manufacturing build, programming, and test systems for current console manufacturing and automated disposable final verification systems.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO13485, GMP, FDA, OSHA regulations

Production Scale and Improvement

  • Drive console manufacturing linear scale-up as necessary.
  • Lead manufacturing transfer and implementation of new electronics product lines; collaborating with current internal and external manufacturing sites and R&D teams.
  • Act as a project leader for electronics manufacturing; preparation of schedules, creation & implementation of program and test equipment and processes according to project requirements.

New Product Support

  • Advocate for manufacturing optimization in design and process development.
  • Support new automation equipment specification/design/development/validation, and existing/released product support as required
  • Support the development of electronic medical devices including system architecture, detailed circuit design / implementation and software for embedded systems.
  • Preferred to be able to closely work with R&D in the manufacturing design process including DFT, DFM, DOE, and with automation partners and approved suppliers to design automated handling systems in product test, ASIC programming, and data management.


Job Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field; 5 years of related experience or an advanced degree with 3 years.
  • 3+ years of experience with programming, debugging, and testing in National Instruments LabVIEW, TestStand, or Python (C++ or Visual Basic).
  • 3+ years of experience working with DMMs, DAQ, oscilloscopes, power sources/loads, power meters, relays.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems in an electrical manufacturing engineering capacity
  • Experience with communication protocols like Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, RS232, RS485, CAN.
  • Experience conducting and participating in code and schematic reviews.
  • Experience with process and equipment changes in an FDA regulated environment
  • Familiar with common types of sensors, motors, and other common automation components
  • Familiar with statistical process control principles, gage R&R measurement, and SPC tools.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time
