The Abiomed Applied Research group is a team of scientists, developers, and engineers building a new generation of Impella “Smart Pump” devices. We are currently hiring a Software Test Engineer to contribute to the implementation of our data engineering pipelines and front-end tools. These tools deliver insights on our massive repositories of data to stakeholders across the company. This requires the integration and testing of ETL pipelines, server-side applications, APIs, and front-end portals to help groups across the company leverage valuable insights within our datasets; insights which directly contribute to new algorithms, product designs, and other life-saving technologies.

In this key role in the Applied Research team, you will be implementing/executing existing software test methodologies and designing/developing new software test methodologies to support the rapid development of new data engineering tools. We are looking for an analytical self-starter with a strong attention to detail and passion for understanding software from the end-user’s perspective.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform testing including function, system integration and regression.
  • Create test scripts using test tools like Selenium or similar web browser automation testing tools.
  • Develop new tools and processes to streamline software verification testing, including expanding test automation
  • Generate reports that accurately detail defects found during testing.
  • Collaborate with developers about any bugs, defects, or issues found to ensure rapid resolution.
  • Work to integrate tests into CI/CD pipeline.
  • Participate in code and design reviews.


Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a Software Test Engineer
  • Proficient with software verification & validation test methodologies
  • Experience with End-to-End integration Testing, interface testing, functional testing, system testing, and compatibility testing
  • Experience with front-end automation testing tools
  • Experience testing in a cloud infrastructure environment (Azure, AWS, etc.)
  • Ability to detect and track software defects and inconsistencies; strong analytical skills to diagnose test and software defects
  • Strong documentation experience
  • Experience using requirements/project management tools such as Jama and Jira
  • Strong familiarity of full SDLC
  • Good communicator capable of working side-by-side with developers
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline


Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of SQL
  • Proficient in Python
  • Exposure to Vue/Angular/React or other front-end frameworks
  • Experience with modern programming languages such as Rust/GoLang/Swift
  • Experience with testing for mobile applications
  • Experience with security testing, testing for mobile applications, and/or performance testing
  • Experience with Behavior-Driven Development (BDD)
  • Experienced with Agile methodology
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, FDA-regulated environment
