Patients First | Innovation | Winning Culture | Heart Recovery

Are you curious about the next generation of innovative heart pumps – pumps that are smaller, smarter, and connected? Are you fascinated by the advanced hemodynamic monitoring used to manage those pumps? Do you want to build the future of the cardiac ICU in pursuit of our mission to “Recover Hearts and Save Lives”? If yes, we are definitely looking for you!

At Abiomed, we’re building the next generation of advanced mechanical circulatory support – devices that are smarter and more connected with the growing healthcare data ecosystem. We believe that best-in-class devices are built at the system-level, knowing how they support patients and how those patients are managed from diagnosis to discharge. We believe that our leaders do best when they know the unmet clinical needs of our users and our patients and they have the technical strength to find, build, and deliver a solution for that need.

Our team is focused on expanding the portfolio of advanced patient management tools that make our heart pumps a world-leading innovative device. We need system-level engineers who can drive these ideas from conception to commercialization with focus, passion, and high standards. This makes our lead systems engineers a critical hire to achieve our mission – someone who is not afraid to own critical goals and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment. If you’re up for this mission and willing to do what it takes to meet those goals, this is the place for you.

Key responsibilities:

  • Own Critical Care programs from idea conception through product commercialization
  • Lead cross-functional teams through a stage-gate process to mitigate key program risks
  • Search, find, and refine unmet clinical needs in the Critical Care/Cardiac ICU domains
  • Go deep on problems to understand the fundamentals and set program requirements with confidence
  • Prioritize technical pathways and oversee their execution through all stages of development with clear milestones and visible timelines
  • Fluidly interface across medical device domains, including hardware/software/algorithm engineering, product management, clinical operations, regulatory affairs, and quality assurance
  • Manage external partnerships with academic and industry collaborators to continuously feed our innovation funnel

Need to have:

  • Track record of delivering medical device programs through successful technical milestones.
  • 5+ years of medical device industry experience in technical or R&D roles
  • Degree in biomedical, mechanical, or systems engineering, or degree in other technical field such as algorithm engineering, data science, or computer science coupled with systems-level understanding of medical devices

Nice to have:

  • Domain knowledge in either mechanical circulatory support or cardiac hemodynamics
  • Exposure to care settings, including cardiac catheterization labs, cardiac surgery suites, and cardiac intensive care units.
  • Familiarity with clinical decision support tools and predictive AI/ML algorithms
  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in technical field
