The Impella connect technology suite is scaling to add Abi, our big-data and AI capability – and we need your help!

 

Abiomed has an immediate opportunity for an Azure Database Administrator (DBA) to join the Impella Connect cloud team.  In addition to DBA Skills, the ideal candidate should have an advanced grasp of cloud data management tools and technologies.  This position ensures the data platform operates in an efficient, secure, and scalable manner while supporting implementation, maintenance, administration tasks of the existing data platform.  This also includes supporting the implementation of new platform features related to Data Ingestion, Data Storing, and supporting data consumers.  Data Ingestion varies from real time IoT telemetry data and logs, external Integrations using FHIR, bulk data imports, and application auditing and data entry.  The Data Stores consist of MS Azure SQL Database, No SQL, Blob, and data lakes.  The Data Consumers vary from AI/ML tools, real-time intuitive visualization dashboards, data lakes/warehouses, EMR applications, as well as internal Abiomed research systems.  If you are eager to leverage your DBA skills, your attention to detail, and your passion for building a fast, accurate and high-quality application infrastructure that makes a difference in patients’ lives, then this Cloud DBA role is perfect for you.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, support, and optimize Azure SQL Database, functions, stored procedures, tables, and views
  • Develop, implement, and maintain data pipelines and integration processes utilizing such tools as Azure Data Factory, event hubs, logic apps, service bus queues, stream analytics, and Azure Data Lakes
  • Perform on-going production operations, support, and maintenance of the Azure Data Platform
  • Insure Data platform (Data at Rest/Transport/Use) security and resiliency through the implementation of operational, regulatory (such as HIPAA and GDPR), and security best practices and procedures
  • Respond to tickets and other notifications of issues. Resolves the more complex issues, determining the cause of the database problem, determine a solution, and implement the appropriate actions to correct
  • Develop performance monitoring tools, dashboards, and processes to effectively monitor data platform
  • Maintain high level of uptime and optimal performance for production databases within the data platform
  • Work with Cloud Operations/QA to implement new features, investigate issues (root cause analysis), perform maintenance tasks, and troubleshoot database/query performance
  • Stay up to date on Microsoft enhancements/advances to the Azure cloud data platform
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

 

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years DBA experience, or master’s degree with 3+ years DBA experience
  • Experience working with SQL databases, including advanced SQL (T-SQL, Azure SQL, stored procedures, tables, in-memory tables, views, debugging, and query optimization techniques)
  • Experience tuning large MS SQL data repositories
  • Experience with cloud-based technologies
  • Experience working in an Agile software development life cycle 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Committment to working with a sense of urgency and embracing new challenges
  • Ability to routinely work on multiple tasks with multiple people while effectively prioritizing

 

The following is strongly preferred experience:

  • IoT Solutions
  • Azure services
  • Secure storage (e.g., Azure Key Vault, Key Management Services)
  • Working in a regulated environment, FDA-regulated environment preferred
  • Azure SQL DB platforms using geo redundancy supporting multiple collation
  • Working with Azure Data Lakes in a production environment
  •  Azure Data Lake, Synapse, Cosmos, Blob Storage, and other Cloud Data Services
  • Integrating with Salesforce databases and SOQL query syntax
  • .Net C# (Python a plus) programming languages
