Job Description


Abiomed, a rapidly growing medical device company, is looking for a passionate, driven and results oriented, experienced Surgical Account Manager. This role is key to Abiomed’s commercial business success.

Our products have continued to expand in surgical suites across the globe. With our continued success and launch of our new surgical Impella 5.5 platform, we are looking to expand our European Commercial team to develop our surgical business and to ensure best clinical outcomes. Our goal is to establish Heart Recovery as new standard of Care which requires a Heart Team approach.

You will work closely with our clinical consultant heart team, our cardiology sales and clinical team. You will be responsible for driving growth in the surgical business across the GERMANY Central. Through our Impella® product portfolio you will enable physicians and staff to recover hearts and save patients’ lives. 


Job Responsibilities:


  • Identify opportunities, generate market awareness, and drive adoption of Abiomed’s surgical products (Impella® 5.0, 5.5, LD, RP).
  • Open new accounts and built KOLs
  • Educating customers regarding the indications, contra-indications, and technical applications of Abiomed’s product portfolio.
  • Support surgical cases if appropriate
  • Manage the transition from the initial purchase to the clinical implementation of the product to drive adoption.
  • Work collaboratively with the surgical clinical consultant and the cardiology team in the assigned region to achieve quarter over quarter growth.
  • Drive excitement and vision of heart recovery solutions with existing devices and the future technologies.
  • Organize and execute surgical round tables (PPD)
  • Call point(s): Cardiac Surgeons, HF Surgeons, HF cardiologists, Intensivists, ICU nurses & Perfusionists
  • Organize HEART Team approach with local TM colleague
  • Staff major conferences & local heart failure symposiums.
  • Build surgical vertical in established Impella programs – Full product portfolio.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and represent the company with high integrity, ethics, honesty, loyalty, and professionalism.


Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Several years experience of cardiac surgery and/- or surgical medical device sales in the field of Heart Failure and MCS business required, with a proven track record of technology adoption and market development.
  • Demonstrate strategic selling skills, with a clinical consultative sales process to create regional business plans
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with physicians and executives
  • A proven track record in leading and motivating teams to successfully achieve quotas required
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac surgery, perfusion medicine, mechanical circulatory support, structural heart anatomy required
  • Experience selling across multiple geographies
  • Established relationships/network of Cardiac Surgeons across the Capitol Region
  • Direct patient support experience required
  • Ability to drive patient outcomes required
  • Ability to travel 80% overnight required
