We are looking for an experienced Facilities Manager to oversee all building-related activities for the Abiomed Baltimore site. You will be responsible for preserving the condition of the infrastructure and ensure that facilities are safe and well-functioning.  You will also manage projects to expand and/or modify the existing workspaces including offices, manufacturing, warehouse, laboratories, cafeteria, building exterior and grounds, working closely with all levels of the organization. Responsibilities include site security, safety, and environmental compliance, clean room facility maintenance/ performance, chemical fluid management, and interface with various external agencies. 


The ideal candidate will be well-organized and able to optimize the use of space and equipment while reducing operating costs. Leadership abilities and efficiency are necessary to excel.  The goal is to ensure our business’s accommodations are problem-free and safe so that employees can work under the best conditions


Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Planning and coordinating all installations and refurbishments (telecommunications, heat, electricity etc.)
  • Managing the upkeep of equipment and supplies to meet health, regulatory and safety standards
  • Inspecting buildings’ structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations
  • Cost management of utilities, contracts, operating supplies, etc.
  • Manage relevant external contractors (custodians, technicians, groundskeepers etc.)
  • Control activities like parking space allocation, waste disposal, building security etc.
  • Allocate/Modify office space according to needs
  • Handle insurance plans and service contracts
  • Keep financial and non-financial records
  • Perform analysis and forecasting

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as facilities manager or relevant position
  • Strong Project Management skills
  • Customer service orientation
  • Technical/Engineering skills
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and finance principles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Good analytical/critical thinking skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS/BA in facility management, engineering, business administration or relevant field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficient in scheduling software (e.g. MS Project)
  • Cleanroom experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of lean, six sigma, kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives
